Mrs. Combass's 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders were challenged to earn their Recorder Black Belt in music class. Similar to martial arts levels, students worked hard all year to earn progressively challenging belt color levels. Students who earn the black belt are able to learn songs and perform them with fluency, consistent tempo, and melody. This year we had NINE students earn the award: Ashton G, Mindy K, Eden G, Charlee M, Zoe F, Lily M, Olivia L, Ethan H, and Andrew T. In fact, several of these students demonstrated perseverance by taking their black belt test during the last week of school!
Learning to play the recorder is often the first step for many elementary students in their musical journey. It serves as an introduction to reading sheet music, and mastering fundamental techniques such as breath control and finger placement. We are very proud of these hard-working musicians (and their inspirational teacher!), and hope they continue to pursue their musical talent.

βοΈSUMMER STARTS NOWβοΈ

Congratulations to Gianna in Mr. DellaFave's classroom! She created the winning design for a unique CGE spirit shirt, in a new contest open to all 4th graders. Her orange and green block letter drawing earned 124 votes!
Our fabulous PTA organized this contest and students drew entries with Mrs. Martin's guidance during art class. She was surprised with the announcement of her success by members of our PTA and her mom delivering balloons and a certificate to the classroom this morning.
Over the summer Gianna's creation will be printed on shirts and made available for purchase in August. We hope to see many of these special spirit shirts on campus next year so this can become a Diamondback tradition!

πCELEBRATING ACCELERATED READERSπ
