📚CELEBRATING OUR HISTORY📚 As our celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth continues, we spotlight two brothers who were educational pioneers in Martin County, Charles E. and Robert G. Murray. Charles Murray founded the Stuart Training School in 1926 - this was the county's first high school for Black students. He remained principal until 1939 when his brother, Robert, took over. Stuart Training School eventually became Spectrum Academy and Murray Middle School was named after the brothers. #ALLINMartin👊

📚CELEBRATING LEADERS AND TRAILBLAZERS📚 Today, we celebrate our first of many local leaders in honor of #BlackHistoryMonth. Dr. David L. Anderson was an educational pioneer in Martin County, having served as a School Board Member and in various leadership roles at IRSC - Indian River State College for more than 30 years. In 2006, he was honored as the namesake of the Martin County School District's newest middle school - Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School. 🐝ICYMI: STELLAR SPELLERS SHINE🐝 The Martin County School District recently held the 57th Annual Lillian A. Dassori Elementary Spelling Bee at Jensen Beach High School. Students from all twelve of the District's elementary schools participated in seven rounds of competition, tackling tough words such as '"aardvark," "anathema," and "celestial." The winner of the Bee, Olivia Priddy from SeaWind Elementary - Hobe Sound, FL, nailed the winning word, "eschew." 🥚EGGSTRA CAREFUL🥚 Crystal Lake Elementary School recently held its annual Egg Drop Competition! Students either created their devices at home or school with donated materials and came up with some great engineering designs! It takes a team to help organize this fun and educational competition. The Martin County School District's Maintenance Department loaned the cherry picker and the operator, AJ. 🚨LAW ENFORCEMENT ALERT FOR FAMILIES🚨 The Martin County Sheriff's Office is actively enforcing laws about the operation of unregistered golf carts in our community, particularly near school campuses. Golf carts are only permitted on roads with a maximum 35 mph speed limit, and that’s only if they are titled, registered, insured and have all the appropriate safety measures to make them street legal.
