Over 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Approximately 16,000 students were selected as semifinalists in this year's competition. Finalists will be announced in the spring of 2024. They were led by Junior Hannah Whetzel’s 214 and Sophomore Lizzie Fitzwater’s 167. The boys’ team improved to 8-1 behind strong games by Junior Henry Dieffenbach, Sophomore Aiden Wintercorn, and Senior Kasey Davis who rolled games of 218, 194, and 183 respectively. Both teams will face off against Martin County High School on Thursday at Stuart Lanes. The girls’ golf team defeated Vero by a score of 159-170. Both Claire Liu and Anita Wang shot a one over 37 to lead the team. Faith Ayers carded a 41 and Chloe Sebuck finished with a 44 to seal the team win. 🇺🇸CELEBRATE FREEDOM WEEK🇺🇸 The Florida Legislature has designated the last full week in September as "Celebrate Freedom Week." During this special week, the Martin County School District will proudly incorporate meaningful activities and lessons to reinforce the principles our nation was founded on. 🇺🇸📖 Celebrate Freedom Week highlights the significance of the Declaration of Independence. Through our social studies classes, students will participate in an age-appropriate in-depth student of the intent, meaning and importance of the Declaration of Independence. Each morning throughout the week, students will recite the following words of the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. 🛤️RAIL SAFETY WEEK🛤️ Sept. 18-22 is Rail Safety Week, and with GoBrightline starting service from Miami to Orlando on Friday, this is an opportune time to remind families how to be safe near railroad crossings. 🚅 Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should be aware that rail traffic runs in both directions. 🚅 Stay off the tracks and NEVER go around crossing gates. 🚅 Only cross the railroad at a designated crossing. 🚅 NEVER stop on the tracks. 🚅 Avoid distractions. The girls’ team of Hannah Whetzel, Lizzie Fitzwater, Danielle Bell, Christen Bell, and Grace Pettit, scored a season-high team series of 751 in the win. The boys earned the victory by taking the best of 3 Baker-tie-break, 2 games to none. Both teams will host Lincoln Park Academy on Tuesday at Jensen Beach Lanes. The Varsity Football team beat Stoneman Douglas last night 28-0 on the road to move to 4-0 on the season. QB Austin Connelly threw 3 TD passes, 2 to Mike English and 1 to Jonny Ahearn. Dennis Palmer also had an electric 55-yard TD run. The defense dominated again and had their 4th shutout in a row. Cordell Wilkins had 2 INTs and the front seven put pressure on the opposition all night. The Falcons next play at home on Thursday, Sept. 21 vs. The Benjamin School. The girls’ cross country team won the team title and the boys’ team took second at the Wayne Cross Invitational. J’Hani Styles won the boys’ race! To join the Remind group, text 81010: @ptsa-sc. Students who join the club will be entered into a raffle for Falcon stickers at the first meeting after school on September 13th in Mrs. Chandler’s room. Class Cup Update: The juniors came out to the football game and won the points for Friday night! After tallying Friday's participation, the seniors are still in the lead with 72 points, the Sophomores are in second place with 58, the juniors are in third place with 45, and the freshmen are close behind with 43. The PSAT/NMSQT will be given on Wednesday 10/19/23 at JBHS. Juniors, if you want to take the PSAT/NMSQT, you must bring cash or a check for $18 to Mrs. Jennings in the Guidance office to pay for the test. It is free for freshmen and sophomores, but because it is optional for juniors, there is a cost. Payment must be received before this Friday, September 8th.
