JBHS students today had an incredible opportunity to hear from graduates of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), who shared insight into the college’s diverse programs and dynamic campuses around the world. From creative careers to cutting-edge innovation, students got a firsthand look at what’s possible when art and engineering collide.
One of the highlights? Learning how SCAD’s industrial design and engineering students are pushing boundaries by designing state-of-the-art motor vehicles from the ground up.
And they didn’t just talk about it — they brought one with them.
Meet the SCAD concept car, Aether:
⚡ Fully electric vehicle
⚡ 0–60 mph in under 4 seconds
⚡ 0–120 mph performance capability
⚡ Designed and built entirely by SCAD students
⚡ Crash-tested up to 60 mph
Seeing innovation up close made the experience unforgettable. A huge thank you to the SCAD team for inspiring the next generation of creators, engineers, and visionaries!

✨CTE Spotlight✨
Engineering
Instructor, Mr. Todd Tyrrell
Our four-year Engineering Program immerses students in hands-on, real-world problem solving—building skills in design, manufacturing, robotics, and automation while preparing them for college, careers, and industry certification.
Year 1 – Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
Students learn the engineering design process with a strong focus on CAD. They sketch ideas, create solid models, 3D print prototypes, and test their designs—working both independently and in teams. Students also have the opportunity to earn an industry CAD certification.
Year 2 – Principles of Engineering (POE)
Students explore major engineering fields including mechanical, civil, electrical, and robotics. Using CAD and 3D printing, they design and build solutions to hands-on challenges such as hydraulic cranes, pneumatic launchers, truss bridges, energy vehicles, and robotic systems.
Year 3 – Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
Students advance into robotics, robotic arms, sensors, and automation systems. They learn CAM by converting CAD models into G-code and manufacturing parts with CNC mills. The course also examines automation’s impact on modern manufacturing and flexible automated work cells.
Year 4 – Senior Design
Students apply everything they’ve learned to develop and complete a self-driven capstone engineering project.
