In December, two students, Kiana Kuschel and Lizzie Vanhoose, who are in Choir and Band respectively organized a food drive through the House of Hope of Martin County. They collected non-perishable items in the choir and band classes and at the winter choir and band concerts. Together, they collected 43 pounds of food providing nearly 36 meals to residents in Martin County in need. The compassion and drive of our students is inspiring. We thank them for their hard work and congratulate them on making a difference in our community.

South Fork High School participated in the seventh annual “Constitution Academic Competition” sponsored by the Center for Constitutional Values’ Scholarship Fund, the YMCA of the Treasure Coast, and the Martin County School District. The teams— Noyana Pierre-Louis and Sophie Suereth; Dawson Hawkins and Matthew Mastrosimone—debated the U.S. Supreme Court case “Miller v. Alabama”, to ascertain if the case was wrongly decided? (The case addressed the constitutionality of enacting the death penalty for juveniles convicted of capital crimes.) Although both teams effectively articulated their positions, Noyana Pierre-Louis and Sophie Suereth won the debate (advocating for Miller).
