Dr. Aitken talked about his vision for South Fork High School, his philosophy of education and shared celebrations and successes of staff and students. Parents also got a little show from South Fork High's choir while they enjoyed their pastries! 🤝COMMUNITY SUPPORT FUELS SUCCESS🤝 Superintendent John D. Millay and Deputy Superintendent Michael Maine attended the United Way of Martin County's October Community Conversation at the Kane Center this afternoon. Dr. Millay provided attendees with an update on teaching, learning and demographic shifts throughout the Martin County School District. We continue to encourage anyone with a little free time in their schedule to consider volunteering to read to our students. To eliminate the vocabulary and language acquisition gaps that exist throughout the District, we need a minimum of 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ volunteer hours for reading per week at each school. 🌊MAKING RIPPLES🌊 We are honored to celebrate Mr. Joe, an outstanding substitute teacher who has served students enrolled in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classes at Felix A. Williams Elementary over the last few weeks. "Mr. Joe has been a wonderful addition to our unit," Ms. Cooney shares. "He has taken on being a paraprofessional in our room for the past month, and his assistance has been priceless. He goes out of his way to form wonderful relationships with the students and comes in every morning with endless positivity to share. Our little group will greatly miss him. They are working extremely hard to reach their end-of-year goals in the MCSD Reads program. MCSD Reads is the District's initiative to close the word gap by reinstating Accelerated Reader throughout the 2022-2023 school year, where students read books and take quizzes for fun prizes! When presented with the award, FAEA leaders said: "She has thrived as an art educator at IMS. Ashley is an active grant writer. 🎉ICYMI: HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATIONS🎉 Hispanic Heritage Month officially ended Oct. 15, but we wanted to take a moment and highlight some of the fantastic festivities Martin County School District families and staff hosted to celebrate the beautiful Hispanic cultures within the District! SeaWind Elementary, Warfield Elementary and Port Salerno Elementary all recently held Hispanic Heritage Night. Students and their families participated in crafts like making traditional Guatemalan or Peruvian dolls, watched beautiful dances, ate delicious food and learned about different Hispanic cultures! It was amazing to see families dressed in intricate and colorful traditional clothing! At the MCSD Central Office, Instructional Services staff celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting their own potluck fiesta! #ALLINMartin👊 #MCSDTheRippleEffect

⚖CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN CIVIC EDUCATION⚖ Though the subject has recently increased in prominence at the local, state and national levels, the Martin County School District has traditionally prioritized and promoted Civic education. Through our many partnerships with community organizations, including the YMCA of The Treasure Coast's Florida YMCA Youth In Government (YiG) program and the Martin County Supervisor of Elections' art program, we have proudly engaged students in their civic responsibility.
