Superintendent John D. Millay and the Martin County School Board celebrated the career of Ms. Conney Dahn last evening. Ms. Dahn, a longtime educator of students with exceptionalities at Jensen Beach High School, holds the distinction of being Martin County's only educator to earn the Florida Department of Education's Teacher of the Year award. She retires with 34 years of service to the children and schools of Martin County.

Today's senior in the spotlight is David Delgado of Martin County High School!
David plans to attend Indian River State College to pursue his dream of becoming a registered nurse.
"It was an absolute honor to be in this high school, it truly wouldn't have been possible to be where I am today without the teachers and administrators at Martin County High School," David shares. "I want to give shoutouts to my CTE medical teachers that have taught me and helped me become a Certified Nursing Assistant. I plan to go straight to Indian River State College with my four-year scholarship awarded by the Indian River State College Foundation's Take Stock in Children program and become a registered nurse. I want to give back to my community as I've been supported and touched by caring individuals. I also want to give a big shoutout to my mentors through Take Stock in Children and to my loved ones who supported me unconditionally through my journey!"

Austin's very proud mother, Brook Duchene, shares that Austin plans to attend the University of Florida and major in mechanical engineering.
"We are so proud of Austin for the effort and dedication he has put into his academic and athletic career but more importantly, we are proud of his character, which is thanks - in part - to the amazing people who have guided and supported him over the years," Ms. Duchene shares.
In Austin's words - "I am grateful for all of my experiences over the years. Some of my best memories are of field days at J. D. Parker Elementary School, field trips to the Environmental Studies Council Center, being captain of the Varsity football team and playing in the District championship as well as the comeback game. I would like to thank my friends and family for everything, especially my mom, dad and brother. I would not be where I am today without the incredible people at J.D. Parker, who were the foundation of my love of learning. A huge shoutout to Mr. Thurman and Mr. Soviero, whose wisdom, humor guidance and encouragement have been instrumental in my time at JBHS."

✨ACHIEVING DREAMS✨
Congratulations to Riley Deignan and Colley Casey for landing new jobs at Dunkin'!
Riley and Colley are both students of Project SEARCH, a Martin County School District program that prepares young people with disabilities for success in competitive, integrated employment. It is a year-long transition program for students aged 18-21 that allows them to gain employability skills through internships, mentoring and real-world experiences.
As you can see, the two students couldn't be more happy to join the Dunkin' team. Colley is especially excited because she says this is her dream job! Their instructors couldn't be more proud.

Kyle plans to attend Yale University and major in ethics, politics and economics before attending law school.

🎓 CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE 🎓
A Martin County High School senior has been named a recipient of the National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarship! The National Merit Scholarship Program is a renowned academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955.
This year’s competition began in October 2020 when high school juniors took the PSAT/NMSQT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Last fall, the highest-scoring participants in each state, representing less than one percent of our nation’s high school seniors, were named Semifinalists on a state-representational basis. From this group, some 15,000 students met the very high academic standards and other requirements to advance to the Finalist level of competition. Approximately 7,500 Finalists have earned the “Merit Scholar” title and accompanying scholarships this school year.

Tiffany plans to attend DePaul University with the goal of earning her BFA in film and television studies. She hopes to minor in theatre arts.
"I will forever appreciate my family for always supporting me since day one and now as I'm moving forward into a new chapter of life," Tiffany shares. "Most importantly, I will forever appreciate beings such as my older sister Fio, Ms. Eimann, Mr. Clynes, Ms. Newton and many other influencers along the way. Finally, I could've never progressed forward if it weren't for my friends rooting for me along the way - I hope they know it never went unappreciated. I'm looking forward to becoming a Blue Demon and can't wait to see where this journey goes!"

Superintendent John D. Millay joined School Board Vice Chair Tony Anderson and other local leaders in attending Martin County Black Heritage Initiatives’ recent “Meet a Teacher at the Salerno Colored School” event.
Ms. Charlene Farmington of the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum served as the guest speaker for the event, which allowed attendees to enjoy a “living history experience” at this local landmark.

"Ian will be attending Indian River State College for his A.S. in landscape and horticulture," shares his very proud mother, Tina Dunshee. "He will then attend Warner or FAMU to complete his undergraduate degree. Ian hopes to do landscape design. He has worked really hard this year with two jobs, attending school and successfully becoming an Eagle Scout. Ian's Eagle Scout project was designing and executing a garden located in the StuartLife - The City of Stuart, Florida's Memorial Park. We cannot express how very proud we are. We love you, Ian - you are destined for great things!"

🍎PREPARING FUTURE INDUSTRY LEADERS🍎
Last week, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that more than 7,500 Florida students earned an entrepreneurship and small business (ESB) certification between July 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022. ESB is the Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification which validates individuals' understanding of core business principles, including the essentials needed to launch and maintain a successful business.
In alignment with this statewide focus on workforce education and development, the Martin County School District prioritized entrepreneurship as part of its career and technical education (CTE) course offerings this school year.
