The First Grade Students in Mrs.McIntyre's class were having great fun being scientists. They were exploring with science tools and planting tomato seeds. The students would squeeze the tomatoes to get the seeds out. Watch out-It can get messy!

2nd graders in Mrs. Clark's class practiced their adding skills in centers using different strategies. Ask your kiddo to show you all the ways they can add!
Mrs. Engel's first graders extended their learning about the life cycle of an oak tree with the life cycle of an apple tree in these STEM stations! They were practicing their addition and subtraction skills, figured out the sequence of how to plant a seed and how it grows, and read their mini book about how apple trees change each season, then made their trees match the season on the page. 👏👏
Mrs. Clark's class finished their unit on animal habitats by creating habitat dioramas. Students presented their habitats sharing facts they learned through research. All habitats were very unique and creatively designed! Way to go 2nd graders!
JBE celebrates national school milk day!!! Thank you to Avery and her moo-tastic fashion sense to help us celebrate!

Mrs. Lodes' first graders practiced addition and subtraction strategies using hands on math stations! We love math!
Mrs. Engel's first graders were practicing their addition skills on a giant number line. It's so fun to walk and add!
Mrs. McIntyre's Firsties practicing their decoding skills together! They are super readers!
Mrs. Engel's first-grade scientists wrapped up their unit on the Practice of Science with the "Dancing Raisins" experiment. Did the raisins "dance" in Sprite or water?

AM Dropoff- Once the safety patrols and staff are leaving, do not leave your child outside. Children must be signed in after this time. PM Carline- At 2:10 pm the bus loop will be closed as there is no longer a wait in the main carline. There will be a cone blocking.

The Florida Legislature has designated the last full week in September as "Celebrate Freedom Week." During this special week, the Martin County School District will proudly incorporate meaningful activities and lessons to reinforce the principles our nation was founded on. 🇺🇸📖
Celebrate Freedom Week highlights the significance of the Declaration of Independence. Through our social studies classes, students will participate in an age-appropriate in-depth student of the intent, meaning and importance of the Declaration of Independence. Each morning throughout the week, students will recite the following words of the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Families that do not wish to have their child participate in the oral recitation of the Declaration of Independence must provide written notice to their school no later than Friday morning, September 22.

🛤️RAIL SAFETY WEEK🛤️
Sept. 18-22 is Rail Safety Week, and with GoBrightline starting service from Miami to Orlando on Friday, this is an opportune time to remind families how to be safe near railroad crossings.
🚅 Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should be aware that rail traffic runs in both directions.
🚅 Stay off the tracks and NEVER go around crossing gates.
🚅 Only cross the railroad at a designated crossing.
🚅 NEVER stop on the tracks.
🚅 Avoid distractions.
Brightline trains can travel up to 110 mph. With service starting to Orlando, more high-speed trains will be passing through Martin County.

Families, don't forget! Martin County School District students have the opportunity to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month while also having a chance to win a college scholarship!
Students can participate in the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida's 2023 Hispanic Heritage Month art, essay and educator contests. This year's theme is “Celebrating Florida’s Hispanic Heroes and their Contributions to Freedom.”
