📚✨ What Is Cambridge English General Paper at MCHS All About? ✨📚
Students in Ms. Brandenburg's Cambridge English General Paper (EGP) class recently took their first deep dive into the course! After learning about what EGP is, what to expect, and how it challenges students to think critically about the world around them, students explored the course introduction in their textbook.
Their mission? To create a One-Page Note that summarized the most important concepts and skills they believe every future EGP student should know. 📝💡
By focusing on key ideas such as critical thinking, effective communication, analyzing global issues, evaluating evidence, and developing informed perspectives, students transformed their learning into creative visual summaries. Each note was designed as if they were introducing the course to someone considering taking Cambridge English General Paper.
This activity encouraged students to take ownership of their learning while reflecting on an essential question: "What is most important for success in this course?"

🐯💙 A Full-Circle Tiger Moment 💙🐯
Some moments remind us just how quickly time flies and how powerful connections can be.
Years ago, one of our Tigers, Class of 2027 Senior, Gavin Farrell, had the opportunity to meet Justin Simmons when Justin visited Pinewood Elementary shortly after his rookie season with the Denver Broncos. Like many young students, Gavin was excited to meet a professional athlete and create a memory that would last a lifetime.
Fast forward to today.
As Justin Simmons spoke to MCHS students about staying true to yourself, believing in your dreams, and putting in the work required to achieve your goals, Gavin had a unique opportunity. Not only did he get to meet Justin again, but he also brought along the photograph from their very first meeting years ago.
What started as a chance encounter between an elementary school student and a young NFL player became a remarkable full-circle moment. Standing together once again, Gavin was able to share a memory that had stayed with him since childhood, while Justin saw firsthand the impact a simple visit can have on a young person's life.
Moments like these remind us that inspiration can last far longer than a single day. You never know how a kind word, a photo, or an encouraging message may stay with someone and come full circle years later.

We're excited to welcome home one of our own, MCHS alumnus, NFL star, and community leader Justin Simmons, for a special day dedicated to inspiring our students. Throughout the day, Justin will meet with students and share his powerful journey from the halls of Martin County High School to the NFL. His message will focus on leadership, perseverance, overcoming obstacles, standing up for others, and ensuring everyone feels seen, valued, and included.
Through the Justin Simmons Foundation, he continues to make a difference by mentoring young people, supporting youth education, promoting youth sports, and investing in communities. This is a unique opportunity for our Tigers to hear from someone who once sat in the same classrooms, walked the same hallways, and turned hard work, character, and determination into success both on and off the field.
And the celebration doesn't stop when the school day ends!
