Our AVID students had a powerful opportunity to explore real-world career pathways as Timothy Calhoun visited campus to share his experience in fleet management. Through his engaging conversation, students gained insight into an industry they don’t always see—but one that offers strong career growth and leadership opportunities.
Mr. Calhoun introduced students to his five pillars for success:
✅ Attitude
✅ Attention to detail
✅ Physical fitness
✅ Reliability
✅ Competency & professional development
He explained how each of these traits has shaped his career, opened doors for advancement, and continues to guide his professional growth. The message was clear and impactful—success isn’t just about what you know, but how you show up, work hard, and commit to continuous improvement.
Thank you, Mr. Calhoun, for sharing your journey and inspiring our students to build strong habits and mindsets for future success. Our Tigers walked away motivated and career-connected! 🐅✨

This evening, we are shining a spotlight on Martin County High School senior Julian Grieco!
"Once upon a time (not that long ago, because he’s still young and already doing everything), there lived a remarkable young man who somehow managed to fit about 40 hours of life into every 24-hour day," Julian's proud family shared. "Not because he’s superhuman, but because God’s blessings have shaped his heart, his mind, and his spirit. This young man is known by many titles: Basketball player 🏀, Future lawyer ⚖️, Coin collector 🪙, Treasure hunter 🧭, Pickle eating contest enthusiast 🥒, Professional good-mood distributor 😄, and full-time inspiration to everyone around him.
"From the outside, people see a hardworking, reliable, funny guy who always seems upbeat. But what they don’t always see is the engine inside him—a quiet determination to squeeze every drop out of the time he’s been given. Some kids collect baseball cards. He collects coins… and probably the occasional buried treasure. Some kids shoot hoops for fun. He plays basketball, proving that hard work, discipline, and a little bit of stubborn determination can take you far. And now, as graduation approaches, he’s preparing to step into the next chapter: .LAW, which honestly makes perfect sense. Because if anyone can argue a case, investigate a mystery, negotiate a deal, win a basketball game, find buried treasures, and still have time to eat pickles…it’s him!. But even more importantly, he does all of this with God at the center of his life. But the truth is, what makes him special isn’t just what he does. It’s how he does it. He shows up. He works hard. He stays kind. He keeps laughing."
🎉Congratulations, Julian! 🎉 We are so very proud of you!

🌿⚡ Career Learning in Action — Thank You, Laura Matheson! ⚡🌿
Our AVID students had an incredible opportunity to learn about real-world career pathways as we welcomed back MCHS alumna Laura Matheson. Laura shared insights into her work as an Environmental Specialist with NextEra Energy Resources, walking students through her journey from Martin County High School to her current role.
Students gained a firsthand look at what her day-to-day career involves, the educational and professional steps she took, and how curiosity and perseverance helped shape her path. 🌎
One of the most impactful takeaways was Laura’s advice to follow your passion and surround yourself with “cheerleaders”—people who encourage your goals and support your growth. 💙 This message truly resonated with our students.
Thank you, Laura, for returning to your alma mater and inspiring the next generation of MCHS Tigers with meaningful career connections and real-world perspective! ✨

She also completed her AA degree through dual enrollment at Indian River State College before graduating from high school. She did all this while working as an aftercare aide at Bessey Creek Elementary School and participating in various after-school clubs, including being a Girl Scout since kindergarten.
