🍎🎉CELEBRATING SERVICE🎉🍎 Congratulations to Darlene Doucette, a Food and Nutrition Services employee at Murray Middle School, for receiving the Florida School Nutrition Association, Inc. Community Humanitarian Award! Darlene earned this award not for her fantastic service during lunch but for her incredible heart outside of school, serving the community. She is part of a local group, St. Joseph's Prayer Shawl Ministry, crocheting and knitting worry worms, prayer blankets and caps for cancer patients, among some other items. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Tracey Miller, Director of Food and Nutrition Services Laura Holmedal, Principal Jeff Umbaugh and Cafeteria Manager Carla Davidson were proud to recognize Darlene's accomplishment. 📆HURRICANE MAKEUP DAYS📆 Reminder for families: Hurricane season doesn't officially end until Nov. 30. As we near the end of the season, we want to remind Martin County families of the scheduled Emergency Makeup Days built into the 2023-2024 School Calendar. We are also nearing the first set up Emergency Makeup Days on our Instructional Calendar, which precedes Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 20-21). These days may be used to make up instructional time in the event we need to close for one or more storms. IF we do NOT experience any emergency situations or storms requiring us to use one or more of these Emergency Makeup Days, those two days will be added to Thanksgiving Break, giving students the week away from school (Nov. 20-24). At this time, that appears to be the case. If we experience conditions that would necessitate making up one or more school days, we will provide notice of the appropriate date(s) to families and employees as soon as possible. The Martin County School Board approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar during its meeting on Nov. 22, 2022. Furry friends have the best listening ears! 🐾🐾 Paws to Read dogs and their owners recently visited Murray Middle School for their weekly visit, helping our students grow their reading skills. This is a very special program our students at MMS love dearly! We are grateful to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, the dogs and their handlers for building confidence in students who have difficulty reading. ⭐SHOWCASING CAREER AND TECH EDUCATION⭐ Parents of 8th-grade students at Murray Middle School, Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School, Stuart Middle School, Hidden Oaks Middle School and Indiantown Middle School: mark your child's calendar for the annual Career and Technical Education's Explore My Future Career Academy Showcase! Starting November 9, 8th-grade students will have the opportunity to explore all the Career and Technical Education Programs our high schools offer. The showcase is during regular school hours. Students will network with industry professionals, connect with CTE and local work-based opportunities, interact with current CTE Academy student leaders, and plan for their future! An informational Zoom presentation will also be available for parents on Dec. 6.
