🍎HEAD START & VPK OPEN ENROLLMENT TO BEGIN ON MONDAY🍎 Just a reminder, families - we will begin accepting Head Start and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) applications for next school year (2022-2023) on Monday, February 7. Students must be three (3) years of age on or before September 1, 2022, to register for Head Start. Students must be four (4) years of age on or before September 1, 2022, to register for VPK. 📚CELEBRATING LEADERS AND TRAILBLAZERS📚 Today, we celebrate our first of many local leaders in honor of #BlackHistoryMonth. Dr. David L. Anderson was an educational pioneer in Martin County, having served as a School Board Member and also in various leadership roles at Indian River State College for more than 30 years. In 2006, he was honored as the namesake of Martin County's newest middle school - Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School. Dr. Anderson passed away on December 23, 2021, at the age of 80. Slowly but surely, the Environmental Studies Center has resumed its on-site field trips. To ensure transportation requirements are met throughout the District, as well as to allow the Center to welcome as many children as possible, students in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to visit this school year. The Center offers many opportunities for the community to visit throughout the year, including the upcoming Grandparents Day which will be held this Saturday, February 5! 🍎CELEBRATING A LIFELONG EDUCATOR🍎 Indian River State College published a touching tribute to Dr. David L. Anderson this week. Dr. Anderson held many leadership positions at IRSC, including the role of Vice President of Student Affairs, a position he held from 1989 until his retirement in 2003. Dr. Anderson also holds the distinction of being Florida's longest serving school board member, as he served our community as a member of the Martin County School Board for 32 years. Dr. Anderson was a living example of servant leadership.
