Today's senior in the spotlight is Ya'Lana Noel Doriise Weaver of South Fork High School!
"I am a licensed nail technician in the state of Florida and the owner of Nailed by Lana, LLC," Ya'Lana shares. "My plans after high school are to finish my A.S. degree with IRSC - Indian River State College and become a radiology technician. I would then like to enter a diagnostic medical imaging program to become an ultrasound technician. I'd like to send a huge shoutout to Mr. Talerico and Ms. Smith. Not only have they been the best teachers, but they have also been my best friends - the two people that I can talk to without feeling unheard or misunderstood; they are a gift and I love them endlessly. I would also like to mention my mother, Doris L. James-Weaver. She has been the best mother that anyone could ever dream of. She is the depiction of a rose in a field of daisies. Lastly, I would like to pay tribute to my late father, Bishop Raymond R. Weaver - all that I do is in memory of you."
🎉Congratulations, Ya'Lana! 🎉 We are so very proud of you!

Today's senior in the spotlight is Rafael J. Fanjul III of Martin County High School!
"Our family moved to Florida at the end of April 2020, so my son spent the end of his sophomore year and all of his junior year online due to the pandemic," Rafael's proud mother, Teresa Fanjul, shared. "His senior year was his first year in the school in person. Rafael is one of the bravest and most inspiring young people I have ever known."
Rafael suffers from a chronic condition that requires him to receive infusions with debilitating side effects. He spent his early life in and out of hospitals and schools. When he was 13 and finally diagnosed, his life changed. He began to excel in school and in life. At MCHS, he has been on the honor roll and takes honors courses. He applied to five universities and was accepted at four of them. He plans to attend Florida Atlantic University and pursue a degree in biochemistry. He'd like to become a pediatric anesthesiologist because he wants to give back to and help kids like himself.
"We are so proud of him and his academic achievements," Ms. Fanjul shared. "He has had to fight many times as hard as his peers. He has faced his illness bravely with no complaints. In addition to his academic success, he is a masterful baker. He has created some 'out of this world' recipes that our family raves about. Finally, he has a very dry sense of humor and drive for learning, both of these give him a wonderful and bright personality. We could not be more proud of our amazing son, who has fought so hard and come out on top. The picture I included is of young Rafael in front of a plane his great-grandfather flew. He loved aerospace and aviation when he was growing up."
🎉Congratulations, Rafael! 🎉 We are so very proud of you!

✖🍽WORD PROBLEM WEDNESDAY✖🍽
Real world learning happens here! Shoutout to Port Salerno Elementary School for incorporating our Food & Nutrition Services Department's fresh fruits and vegetables program into lessons for students! 🍎🍓🥦🥕
Ms. Fisher-Rasmussen developed a word problem that incorporated conversions, rounding and long division using fresh blueberries:
➡Each fifth-grade class received a 5-pound box of blueberries from the cafeteria for snack time.
🔹 How many ounces of blueberries did Ms. R receive?
🔹If there are 17 students that want to try them, how many ounces would each student get? (Round your answer to the nearest tenth).
🔹 If there are seven 5th grade classrooms, how many ounces of blueberries did 5th grade receive from the cafeteria?
