🌀REOPENING UPDATE🌀
**Update 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10: Schools and offices in the Martin County School District will resume operations on Monday, October 14.
The majority of our campuses were fortunately spared from receiving severe damage and have been cleared for a safe return to classes. Murray Middle School did sustain significant damage, but thanks to our team’s remarkable cleanup efforts today and over the weekend, students and staff will be able to return Monday, utilizing areas of the campus that remained unaffected. Safety remains our highest priority, and we are committed to providing a secure learning environment as repairs continue.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our families and neighbors as we all continue to rebuild from Hurricane Milton, and we stand ready to support our students, families, and staff in any way possible. We have partnered with the Education Foundation of Martin County to assist impacted families: https://bit.ly/3BIZm5K
We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, offering a sense of normalcy through the power of education.

🌀 HURRICANE MILTON SUPPORT 🌀
In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the Martin County School District and the Education Foundation of Martin County are united in our commitment to supporting those impacted. We know this has been an incredibly difficult time for many of our educators, students, families and surrounding community.
Our community has always shown incredible strength in times of crisis, and we know that together, we can make a difference. If you are able, please consider donating to the Education Foundation’s Hurricane Milton Crisis Fund. Every contribution helps us meet the needs of our MCSD families and employees. https://bit.ly/3BIZm5K
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your support as we continue to assess needs and provide assistance. We will keep you updated as we work through this difficult time—thank you for standing with us.
We are #MCSDBetterTogether and #MartinStrong.

🌀MILTON DAMAGE UPDATE🌀
Throughout the next few days and weeks, MCSD teams will be visiting campuses to assess damage from Hurricane Milton.
Unfortunately, Murray Middle School has sustained significant damage, as seen in this video. Safety remains our top priority as we evaluate all sites and begin the path to recovery: https://youtu.be/vkohCl1LMEE
We are All In Martin. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Milton. Together, we will rebuild and come back stronger.
Stay tuned for updates about the status of our campuses and how our community can support our students, families and employees in need.

If ever there was a time to go #ALLINMartin, it's now.
For our families, our neighbors, our friends.
We see your stories and feel your anguish.
We share in your heartbreak.
As soon as it is safe to do so, members of Team MCSD will mobilize alongside our municipalities, first responders and philanthropic community to support our students, families and employees any way we can.
We are here. We are resilient. We are #MCSDBetterTogether and #MartinStrong.

🌀EYE ON THE STORM🌀
** Update 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 8: Following this evening's briefing with Martin County Emergency Management officials, the decision has been made to open four schools as shelters beginning at noon tomorrow, October 9, with the exception of the special needs shelter, which opens at 7 a.m. The shelters will remain open until Hurricane Milton has moved away from our area, at which time staff will begin restoring campuses to pre-storm conditions.
As this will take us into Friday, all MCSD-operated schools will remain closed through the end of the current week. We plan to resume classes and normal operations on Monday, October 14.
The following schools will be used as shelters:
-Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School--opens at 7 a.m., Oct. 9 (special needs population - residents should register here: https://www.martin.fl.us/SpecialNeeds). This shelter includes limited medical oversight and is designed for residents with electricity-dependent needs such as oxygen.
-Willoughby Learning Center (residents and pets)
-Port Salerno Elementary School (general population)
-Warfield Elementary School (general population)
Families and employees are encouraged to stay informed by visiting our website, www.martinschools.org, and social media channels for the latest updates. Notifications will also be sent via the District's automated system. Families/employees who are not currently receiving text notifications should text START to 98900 to opt in. We encourage all families to continue monitoring hurricanes.gov and to register for local emergency alerts by visiting https://www.martin.fl.us/AlertMartin.

🐾WILDCAT WELCOMERS🐾
Starting at a new school might be scary, but not when you have a friendly group of students like the Wildcat Welcomers showing the ropes!
These welcomers are learning the importance of leadership, kindness, and inclusion. They are trained to introduce themselves, play with the new student at recess, and take them on a quick tour to meet helpful people in the school. Way to go, Wildcats!

🇺🇸HONORING OUR HEROES🇺🇸
Martin County High School Air Force JROTC Cadet Major Santiago Pacheco was selected as a Guardian for the Honor Flight program on Sept. 21, 2024.

⭐️COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR SAFETY AND SUCCESS⭐️
Chambers of commerce and our labor unions have proudly endorsed the renewal of the existing millage referendum, which helps fund critical resources for our schools.
When Martin County voters head to the polls on November 5, they will see a request to renew the existing millage referendum. Funding from the millage helps provide additional school resource officers and mental health programs to create a safe and supportive environment, while helping us recruit, retain, and train top teachers and staff for a quality education.
